Resident Pitches – Lille Braderie 2026

You live in Lille and want to sell in front of your home on 5 and 6 September 2026? Here is everything you need to know.

Lille Braderie pitch

The privilege of residents at the Lille Braderie

The Lille Braderie is one of the most iconic events of the Lille metropolitan area. Every first weekend of September, over two million visitors fill the streets to browse, negotiate and enjoy the festive atmosphere. For residents – that is, inhabitants of Lille whose home is within the Braderie perimeter – it is a unique opportunity to take part by selling directly in front of their door.

As a resident, you benefit from priority rights over the space in front of your home. Unlike non-residents, you do not need to enter a ballot. You simply need to register within the required timeframe with Lille City Hall to obtain your pitch.

✓ Who qualifies as a resident?

A resident is defined as any individual whose main residence is on a street within the official Lille Braderie perimeter. You must be able to prove your address with a recent proof of address document (energy bill, tax notice, rent receipt).

Registration process for residents

Resident registration is done online via the official Lille City Hall website. Here are the detailed steps:

  1. Watch for registration opening: the City Hall generally announces the opening of the form between May and June. Regularly check the official City of Lille website and municipal social media channels.
  2. Fill in the online form: enter your contact details, your exact address and upload the required supporting documents (identity document, proof of address).
  3. Receive confirmation: once your application is validated, you will receive a confirmation email specifying the conditions of your pitch.
  4. Prepare your stall: organise your merchandise, plan the necessary equipment and familiarise yourself with the regulations.

What is permitted and prohibited

As a resident, you have use of the space in front of your home, but certain strict rules apply:

  • Permitted space: you may occupy the section of pavement directly in front of your front door or facade, to a depth generally not exceeding 1.5 metres.
  • Pedestrian access: it is forbidden to completely block the pavement. A passage of at least 1.40 m must remain clear to allow pedestrian traffic, pushchairs and people with reduced mobility.
  • Building access: building entrances, fire access points and fire hydrants must never be obstructed.
  • Second-hand goods only: as with all Braderie sellers, only personal second-hand items are permitted. No new or food products.
  • Noise nuisance: the use of loudspeakers, megaphones or amplified music is prohibited on selling pitches.

Dimensions of your resident pitch

The size of your pitch depends directly on the width of your facade. As a general rule:

Type of dwelling Approximate frontage Maximum depth
Ground-floor flat 2 to 4 m 1.5 m
Townhouse 4 to 8 m 1.5 m
Shop with window front Varies by frontage 1.5 m

If you live on an upper floor, enquire with your building management company or ground-floor neighbours. In some cases, upper-floor residents can also register, provided they have an agreement with the ground-floor resident or there is free space in front of the building entrance.

Cleaning obligations

⚠ Mandatory cleaning after the Braderie

Each resident-seller is required to fully clean their pitch at the end of the Braderie. Lille City Hall distributes dedicated bin bags. Waste must be sorted and deposited at designated collection points. Unsold items must under no circumstances be abandoned on the public highway. Fines may be imposed for non-compliance.

Cleaning must be carried out on Sunday evening or Monday morning at the latest. Municipal cleaning services then intervene for a general street clean, but the primary responsibility lies with the sellers themselves.

Tips to maximise your sales

Selling in front of your home at the Lille Braderie is a real pleasure, but a few tricks help you make the most of it:

  • Present your goods well: display your items on a table or trestles, at eye level. A ground-level display attracts less attention and discourages hurried browsers.
  • Display prices: clear labels avoid repetitive questions and encourage impulse purchases. Buyers are more inclined to stop when prices are visible.
  • Showcase your star items: place your most attractive objects at the front of the stall to catch the attention of passers-by.
  • Offer bundles: "3 books for 2 euros" or "clothing bundle for 5 euros" helps shift stock more quickly and increases average spend.
  • Night-time lighting: the Braderie continues late into the night. Provide fairy lights or a lamp to remain visible and attractive after dark.
  • Accept multiple payment methods: in addition to cash, consider mobile payment (PayPal, Lydia, Paylib) so you do not lose sales for lack of change.

What sells best at the Braderie?

According to feedback from regular sellers, here are the categories of items that sell best at the Lille Braderie:

  • Branded clothing: especially items in good condition and standard sizes.
  • Vinyl records: collectors are very present at the Braderie.
  • Retro video games: vintage consoles and games easily find buyers.
  • Books and comics: at low prices, they sell very quickly.
  • Vintage and decorative objects: retro decor enthusiasts are numerous.
  • Children's toys: families make up a significant portion of visitors.

Setting up your stall properly

Setting up your stall deserves advance planning. Here is a list of recommended equipment:

  • One or two stable folding tables
  • A tarpaulin or parasol to protect your merchandise from sun or rain
  • Crates and boxes for storage and display
  • A comfortable seat (folding chair or stool) – it is a long day
  • A cash pouch with change in small denominations
  • Paper or plastic bags for customers
  • Something to eat and drink without leaving your stall

Also think about organising with your neighbours. A spirit of mutual help is always appreciated and allows you to watch each other's stalls during breaks.
