The Lille Braderie 2025 has just closed its doors after an exceptional weekend that will remain etched in memory. With an estimated 2.5 million visitors according to organisers, this edition ranks as one of the most well-attended in the history of Europe's largest flea market.
Ideal weather for bargain hunting
The sun was shining on this first weekend of September, offering perfect conditions for strolling along the 100 kilometres of pavements transformed into market stalls. Pleasant temperatures, ranging between 20 and 25 degrees, encouraged locals and visitors from across France to make the most of the event. From Saturday morning, the streets of the Vieux-Lille and the Place du Général-de-Gaulle were packed with enthusiastic bargain hunters.
Record-breaking attendance
Preliminary figures indicate exceptional attendance. On Saturday evening, around 10pm, the crowd density reached unprecedented levels in the Rue de Béthune and Grand'Place area. Public transport also broke records, with over 500,000 journeys recorded on the Ilevia network during the weekend. The automatic metro line ran continuously, a logistical feat praised by passengers.
Moules-frites, still the queens of the celebration
No account of the Braderie would be complete without mentioning the traditional moules-frites tasting. Lille's restaurateurs outdid themselves once again, and the mountains of empty shells outside the brasseries testify to visitors' enthusiasm. An estimated 500 tonnes of mussels were consumed over the weekend, up 10% on the previous edition. Lille's specialities were also very popular.
Strengthened organisation
Lille City Council had gone all out for this 2025 edition, with a reinforced security operation and improved pedestrian flow management. The new traffic plans, tested for the first time this year, helped smooth the flow of visitors. The cleaning teams, meanwhile, did a remarkable job: by Monday morning, the main thoroughfares of the city were already clean.
Both professional and private exhibitors reported being very satisfied with this edition. Many of them reported sales higher than in previous years, confirmed by the festive and generous atmosphere that prevailed throughout the weekend. The date is already set for the Lille Braderie 2026, which promises to be equally memorable.
